Planning a Wedding at The Cape, a Thompson Hotel

As a wedding photographer based in Cabo, I’ve had the opportunity to work at many incredible venues… but there’s something extra special about The Cape. Perched above the ocean with uninterrupted views of the iconic Arch, it’s the kind of place that instantly feels like the one. Sleek, stylish, and effortlessly cool, The Cape is a favorite of couples who want something modern and luxurious, but still deeply connected to Baja’s natural beauty.

If you’re considering getting married here, you’re in for something unforgettable. Here’s everything you need to know about planning a wedding at The Cape.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at The Cape

From the moment you arrive, it’s clear that The Cape is different. The design is bold and modern, with handcrafted Mexican elements throughout, think copper details, concrete textures, rich wood tones, and panoramic views from almost every angle.

For photography, that combination of raw beauty and intentional design is a dream. The spaces are clean and architectural but never cold. The lighting is incredible at golden hour. And the staff? Absolute pros. Every wedding I’ve done here has felt effortless, elegant, and intimate.

Ceremony & Reception Spaces

The Cape offers a few stunning options for your ceremony and reception, each with its own vibe:

The Rooftop
This is probably the most iconic spot at the hotel. With views of The Arch and the crashing waves below, it’s perfect for a sunset ceremony or cocktail hour. The light up here in the evening is next-level.

Glassy Sunset Deck
An intimate space just above the beach that gives you the feeling of floating over the ocean. Great for smaller ceremonies or candlelit dinners.

The Ledge
This restaurant space can be transformed for receptions with style. It’s modern, minimal, and set against that incredible ocean backdrop.

Poolside + Private Villas
There are also options for more private, villa-style events if you’re going for something low-key but luxurious.

Best Time of Year for a Wedding at The Cape

Cabo is beautiful year-round, but the best months for weddings here are November through May. The weather is sunny and dry, with soft light and cooler evenings.

If you’re planning for summer, just keep in mind that it gets hotter and more humid (and there’s a small chance of storms from July to September). I always recommend weekday weddings if you’re looking for a more relaxed and private vibe—weekends can get a little busier.

Getting Ready at The Cape

The suites at The Cape are honestly some of the best I’ve seen for getting ready. Floor-to-ceiling windows, neutral tones, natural light, and just the right amount of character. You won’t need to move a single thing to make the space feel photogenic.

If possible, book one of the oceanfront suites or villas. Not only do they have more space for your crew, but the morning-of views are something you’ll never forget.

Where to Take Photos

You really don’t need to go far to get amazing wedding portraits here. Some of my favorite spots:

  • The rooftop at sunset (hello, glowing skin and ocean views)
  • The beach, with the Arch in the background
  • Textured concrete walls and hallways for something modern and editorial
  • The staircase with its sculptural design… perfect for dramatic shots!

The Cape’s location also means you’re close to some of Cabo’s most beautiful natural backdrops if you want to sneak away for pre- or post-wedding portraits.

Guest Experience

One of the things my couples love most about The Cape is how easy it is for guests to enjoy themselves. The hotel has everything: incredible food, a world-class spa, a rooftop bar, surf spots right below, and rooms that feel like a vacation in themselves.

It’s the kind of place where your guests can turn your wedding into their own mini getaway—which makes the whole experience that much more meaningful.

My Tips as a Photographer

  • Plan for golden hour, the light here is soft and golden right before sunset
  • Don’t over-style, let the architecture and landscape speak for themselves
  • Trust the team, The Cape’s wedding staff is incredibly experienced and knows how to bring everything together seamlessly

Final Thoughts

Weddings at The Cape have this understated magic. It’s not just the view (though that doesn’t hurt). It’s the way everything feels elevated but not overdone. Chic, but warm. Designed, but still deeply human.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels modern, meaningful, and effortlessly beautiful, The Cape might be the perfect place for you. And if you have questions or want to chat about photography, I’d love to help you bring your vision to life.
